Flamenco guitarist based in Manchester
Glenn is a professional guitarist available for solo and group performance, live and studio session work and guitar tuition. His solo concerts offer an extensive repertoire of traditional and contemporary flamenco guitar, including many of his own compositions. He regularly performs in flamenco shows complete with dance, singing and percussion. Glenn can also provide background music for bars, restaurants and private functions. As an active session musician he is highly skilled in all types of guitar, including jazz, blues, world, classical and flamenco. He is also a very popular tutor in the Manchester area who provides excellent training in a wide range of styles and levels.

Biography

Glenn has studied guitar with tutors including Juan Martin (UK), Francisco Morales (Seville), Steve Gordon (Dartington College of Arts) and Les Bolger (jazz guitar). He has gigged and toured with numerous world-music artists including Nitin Sawhney and Aref Durvesh, as well as musicians from Nigeria, India and North Africa. Glenn is currently working on a solo album which fuses flamenco with Arabic, Indian and jazz traditions.

In addition to his solo performances, Glenn (‘El Afilaó’) is the lead guitarist for flamenco group ‘Calaita’ with Chico Pere (cante), Araceli Garcia ‘La Cartagenera’ (baile) and Pepe ‘El Leon’ (cajón). He is also the guitarist for local dance troupe ‘Candela’.

In Concert

Glenn plays a wonderful set of improvised flamenco and traditional Spanish guitar. The flamenco includes traditional toques such as soleares, seguiriyas, tarantas, alegrias and bulerias. His own compositions include solo guitar versions of his forthcoming album material, including a rondeña por buleria and a mesmerising taranta. The classical pieces he plays are all Spanish in origin and have a 'flamenco flavour' to them. This makes Glenn's set very different from the usual romantic guitar repertoire. He also plays some ancient Andalusian music which portrays the Arabic influence on flamenco.

'Glenn plays with intense passion and flair, sometimes gentle and soothing, sometimes fiery and brutal'
