Flamenco de Liverpool organiser

Name: Patricia

Area(s) of Interest: Dancer/Organiser

Patricia has had a passion for dance and music from an early age, starting classical ballet classes at the age of 4. With continued study she passed major ballet examinations at an early age, and as a teenager broadened her interest to other forms of dance including some classical Spanish dance.

Whilst in her 20s, she began to explore the art of flamenco dance and expression. She has undertaken numerous dance courses/workshops in Spain, the UK and Ireland, which includes instruction from such stars as Belen  Maya and Rafaela Currusco. She has an appreciation for the music and rhythm of flamenco, and to support her dance skills has taken courses in palmas, cajon and singing, aswell as being proficient as a castanet player. She has undertaken performances in the past, and has also been part of educational programmes that have introduced primary school children to Spanish culture and flamenco dance.

Patricia considers regular practice and the up-dating of skills and style extremely important to a dancer. She regularly goes to Spain for tuition and has recently returned from Seville where she has taken classes with Carmen de Torres. She takes regular classes with Brenda Story at the Instituto Cervantes in Manchester and is looking forward to becoming part of a new flamenco performance group along with other flamenco friends in the North West.

Age 10  - first performance of some classical spanish dance. I look so grumpy! I think I was upset about having to slick my hair back with a middle parting.
